20|07|2016 - ALP HILLCLIMB PREVIEW

Javi Villa to start the second part of the Spanish Hillclimb championship in the Pyrenees.

The 2016 Spanish Hillclimb championship starts again this weekend at Alp with the fifth round of the season. Javi goes to the first of the two events in the Pyrenees that mark the second half of the season as the commanding leader in Category 2. At the wheel of the BRC B49, the Asturian-born driver has won the four rounds of the series held so far this year, also scoring three overall wins ahead of the more powerful Category 1 cars.

A new win at Alp will leave the title almost decided in favour of Villa, who kept himself race fit during the long break of the championship competing with great success in three events of the North Open Hillclimb with the new BRC B52. At the wheel of the latest model, built by Bango Racing Cars according to the specifications of the CM+ group, Javi has won overall at the Arnedillo and Alisas hillclimbs, also winning Category 1 of the Open in the Navarra and Cantabria rounds as well as in the Santo Emiliano hillclimb.

The rounds of the Open allowed Villa to work on the development of the new car and also to keep up, his race pace before getting back to the B49 for Alp, where his main target will be to remain unbeaten in Category 2. It will be harder to win again in the overall clasification as the fast course of the Catalonian hillclimb will give a big advantage to the more powerful cars in Category 1 and also to the sportscars and single-seaters coming from France to score points in the Pyrenees trophy.

The sixth running of the 'Pujada a Alp' will be held over Saturday and Sunday, and will be part of the programme of the 'Festival Motorsport Alp2500', which also includes the Cerdanya rallysprint as well as a gathering for historic vehicles and a timed hillclimb for classic motorbikes.
