12|05|2016 - FITO HILLCLIMB PREVIEW

Javi Villa is looking for another win at his home race.

The European, Spanish and Asturian hillclimb championships get together this weekend at El Fito. The classic event. held at Arriondas. will be the fourth race of the year for Javi Villa, who was won the three previous rounds of the national series, Estepona, Ubrique and Falperra. In each the Asturian-born driver has dominated Category 2 of the Spanish championship, also scoring two overall wins at the two rounds held in the region of Andalusia.

At El Fito Villa will look for his fourth win of the season to further increase his lead in the standings and make yet another step to what would be his fourth consecutive title in the Spanish Hillclimb Championship. With the boost that always comes from a race at home, and taking advantage of the difficult course of El Fito, Javi will also try to fight again for the overall win in the national series, with his driving compensating for the inferior power of his Category 2 BRC B49 compared with the cars entered in Category 1 which were out of reach last weekend on the fast slopes of Falperra.

The 45th running of the Fito Hillclimb begins on Friday with scrutineering for the more than 120 cars on its entry list that will face the technical route of the south side of the famous Sueve's mountain during Saturday and Sunday. On the first day is scheduled a practice and a timed run, while on Sunday the programme will be completed with a final practice and the two remaining timed climbs. The addition of the two best times of each drivers in the three race climbs will decide the overall results as well as the classifications of the different categories contested in the European, Spanish and regional championships.
