04|05|2016 - FALPERRA HILLCLIMB PREVIEW

Javi Villa travels to Braga for the Portuguese round of the European and Spanish Championships.

The 'big week' of Iberian hillcimbs begins this Friday with the scrutineering for the 'Rampa da Falperra', the first of the back to back rounds of the European and Spanish Hillclimb championships that will be completed in seven days time at El Fito. These two very attractive events are where Javi Villa will look for two more wins in order to increase his lead at the top of Category 2 of the Spanish Championship following on from his wins at the previous two, held at Estepona and Ubrique.

Villa also managed to take the overall victory in the two Andalusian rounds that have started the 2016 season where, at the wheel of his Category 2 BRC B49, he defeated all the more powerful cars entered in Category 1. This feat will be nearly imposible to repeat at the very fast Falperra climb, the course with highest speed of the series and where engine power is crucial. Nevertheless Javi will face the race with the extra motivation of beating the odds that always comes from fighting with a mechanical handicap whilst not losing his focus on the main target: remaining unbeaten in Category 2 by scoring another win to get closer to what will be his fourth consecutive title in the Spanishi Hillclimb Championship.

The hillclimb of Falperra is held on the outskirts of the Portuguese city of Braga and nearly 160 entrants for the European, Portuguese and Spanish series will gather in the downtown area of the city on Friday. The competition is starting on Saturday, when four climbs will be held, three practice and the first timed run. The programme will be completed on Sunday morning with the two remaining timed climbs.
