Javi Villa leads the Spanish Hillclimb Championship ahead of the penultimate round.
Astillero, 22nd August: The 2013 Spanish Hillclimb championship returns to action this weekend at Peña Cabarga. The event, run near the Cantabrian village of Astillero, is the fifth round of the series and given that this week the RFEdA has officialy announced the cancelation of the next hillclimb in the schedule, Liebana in September, it becomes the penultimate round of the series that will finish in October at the Arona-La Escalona hillclimb in Tenerife.

Javi Villa arrives in Peña Cabarga leading the overall standings of the Spanish Hillclimb Championship category 2, the one for the fast and spectacular CM prototypes among which the young Asturian driver is unbeaten this year in the national series, having scored nine wins in the nine rounds he has entered so far at the wheel of the new BRC B49. Villa started the season with three comanding wins at Ubrique and, after not attending the Falperra hillclimb because a date clash with European NASCAR, he got back to the championship with another six clear wins at the three climbs at Fito and the three held at Santo Emiliano.

All in all, a total of nine wins in nine races that, bearing in mind that the series rules allow him to discard the three 'null' results from not competing in Falperra, puts Javi at the front of the championship and as the main favourite to win a title that he could leave almost decided this weekend at Peña Cabarga. This will be the target for Villa and his team at the Cantabrian hillclimb, a course new for Javi, with a first very fast flowing section followed by a second half far more slower and twisty.

The event will be run following the usual programme for the Spanish Hillclimb series, with four climbs on Saturday, two practices and the races 1 and 2, followed on Sunday morning by the last practice climb and the race 3.
