Langreo 22nd June. Javi Villa leads the Spanish Hillclimb Championship after winning, at the Santo Emiliano Hillclimb today, the two climbs counting towards the national series run on the first day of the event.

On a track where the asphalt was giving less grip than usual in previous years, Villa has been clearly fastest on the four climbs, comprising two practice and two races, held today on the fast and technical AS111 road. After setting the best time in the morning's first practice, Javi took another victory in the Spanish Championship winning race one by just over three seconds after being the only driver of the CM category to get under the 2:20 barrier, setting a 2:19.670 that ended up being the best overall time in the CM class over the whole day as times were slower in the afternoon.

Yet another first position in next practice confirmed Villa as the main favourite for the win in race 2, starting at 5:30PM where again Javi was fastest, winning this time by a two second advantage despite not improving his previous time, this time setting a 2:20.830.

With the two wins achieved today the BRC B49 driver faces the final day of Santo Emiliano, run tomorrow morning, with an important margin of five second in the overall results, and he remains unbeaten in the 2013 national series, having scored eight wins in the eight races already entered so far. A great outcome that puts him at the front of the championship standings.

Timetable, Spanish championship:

Sunday 23rd June
10:30 Practice 3
12:00 RACE 3

Javi Villa's own words: "It has been good, two out of two, we can't ask for more. It's true that the track wasn't as good as last year, more slippery, and everybody noticed it. Nobody went under 2:20, only us, also the touring cars were slower than last year and, in general, the times were worse, between three and five seconds, depending on the car and the conditions. Anyway we stayed at the front and today we finished with an advantage of five seconds overall so tomorrow I hope that we'd use the remaining two climbs to keep working on the car, let's hope it stays dry so we can continue with the work, knowing more about the car and striving to get the best possible setup."
