Javi Villa fourth fastest in qualifying.
Nogaro, 30th March 2013: Tomorrow Javier Villa will be starting from the second row of the Nogaro grid for the first of the two races of the 2013 European NASCAR opening round. Today the Spaniard set the fourth best time in the qualifying session, run in the afternoon of a day when, again, the weather has been very changeable although both of the two session were run on a dry track.

In the morning, for the final free practice, the tarmac was initially damp and the forecast was for rain so Villa and his team choose a wet setup for his car but, ultimately, it didn't rain and the track was quickly drying. With a car on slicks but with a setup for the wet, Javi was far from the best times, being almost two seconds from the fastest lap.

Things improved a lot in the afternoon for the qualifying session. With a car now setup for a dry track, Villa went out determined to fight for the top positions, but an oil leak forced him back to the pits almost immediately. Although the Scorpus Racing mechanics quickly fixed the problem, when Javi returned to the track there was a yellow flag so he had to wait for the dying minutes of the session before going for his fastest time. Despite just being able to complete five laps before the end of the session, Villa managed to get close to the top times, finishing fourth, only one tenth shy of second position and just half a second away from the 'pole' time.

The good pace shown by Javi on the laps he completed on the dry track means he'll be among the favourites tomorrow for the first race of the 2013 European NASCAR season, starting at 17:00 he will be starting from the outside of the second row of the grid.

Sunday March 31st
17:00 – 17:30 Race 1
Monday April 1st
17:00 – 17:30 Race 2

Javier Villa's own words: "In the morning session we went the wrong way as we had a car setup for a wet track but it dried up so we had to put the slicks on and we were almost two seconds off the pace. In the afternoon, for the qualifying, everything has been better and, with a car setup for the dry, I was fourth, just half a second from the pole and only a tenth behind the second quickest. Anyway, it has been quite a difficult session, after the first lap I had to pit because I had an oil leak and there was a yellow flag so there was only time for four or five laps so the fourth position isn't that bad as, in such conditions, it could have been far worse. Now we have to think about tomorrow's race, we are starting from the outside of the second row so I'll be cautious at the first corner to avoid any incidents. I think that I've got a good pace and I'll be very consistent and fight for the top positions."
